October 2015 Spotlight Athlete: Taylor Troedson
What made you decide to start CrossFit?
I have always been active and was looking for more. Some co-workers had mentioned CrossFit to me and I went to a “Bring a Friend Day” which quickly turned into 3 years later.
What results have you seen or goals have you achieved?
I quickly saw results within 3 months of going to classes consistently in the form of 9 lbs of muscle. I competed in track and cross-country in high school and can say that I am in better shape now compared to then.
What do you like best about the gym?
I love the camaraderie and the friendships that I’ve built.
What is your favorite exercise or WOD?
Cleans..all of them..especially when they are heavy.
What is your least favorite exercise or WOD?
Tabata, but I still do it anyway, unlike Ken.
What motivates you to show up day after day?
Going to the gym is the way I work through the stress of the day. Plus Ken, my boyfriend, is also a member and it’s nice to share/witness each other’s accomplishments.
What negative thoughts hold you back from being your best?
I don’t typically have negative thoughts surrounding my performance. I know that I’m not going to be competing at the CrossFit Games so my expectations are to do my best and feel like I put everything I had into the workout.
What has been your most memorable moment at Strongpoint CrossFit?
I would have to say having the privilege to compete at Rep Your Box this year. I had participated 2years ago and it was a humbling experience. I can honestly say the dynamic of our gym made this year’s experience incredibly enjoyable.
What has been your least favorite moment at Strongpoint CrossFit?
That it is impossible for me to get to class on time.
What’s one thing that no one at the gym knows about you?
That I have bad road rage. 🙂
What is your favorite quote from Strongpoint CrossFit?
This is an easy one “Or.. You can just do what you want ” -Ryan Miller
What do you want to accomplish with your training in the next year?
I would love to be able to do a muscle up.
What advice would you give to someone who just started out?
Do not feel intimidated. It is easy being the new kid and seeing all the experienced athletes doing things that will seem impossible for you to accomplish. This is not true; we all start from humble beginnings… unless you are Laura Davie.
What advice would give to someone who was on the fence about starting?
We are not all “crazy CrossFitters,” (despite what some social media will lead you to believe) and again do not feel intimidated. The community is about uplifting people and we are all striving to be better versions of ourselves.
Coach’s Comments: Simply put, “TayTay” gets it. Taylor has been with Strongpoint for right at two years and has shown nothing but positive attitude and effort since the day she joined. She regularly participates in competition and gym events having represented Strongpoint during the last two CrossFit Opens, Rep Your Box 2015, and “No Baby Leave the Socks On” in 2014. We have seen Taylor progress to more and more challenging movements and loads throughout her time with us, which are representative of her strong, quiet work ethic. We even forgive her for being late… every day. 🙂 Additionally, she has contributed her time and talents outside of classes to helping with the pull up rig project and our awesome new mobility cart. Taylor is a great team player and a mainstay in our 5:30 class. We look forward to continuing to work together to help her achieve her goals in the years to come.
